Keeping your Lab Warm at Winter!

Keeping your Labrador warm during those cold months can be a real concern. You don’t want your best friend to get a cold! Luckily for all Lab lovers there are plenty of ways keeping your Labrador Retriever nice and snug.

Dog clothing is becoming very popular and even some major clothing lines are producing doggy jackets. Jackets are great for Labs because they are easy to put on and aren’t too expensive either. Tasha has a couple and she looks very cool in her tops.

Many dogs do not like the initial sensation of having a jacket or any clothing on them. Some may find it restricting or just plain uncomfortable. However, with a bit of acclimatisation your Labrador will soon warm up to the idea of wearing something. You can make this process go faster by associating the clothes with treats to start off with.

Choosing the right sort of clothing for your Lab is vital, you don’t want to use a woollen sweater for days when it rains, your Lab would still get wet. If you are primarily worried about cold weather but not rain or snow then insulating materials are great for the outdoors. Sweaters made of woollen types substances are useful for the indoors.

If you live in a rainy part of the world or have a lot of snow then water resistant jackets are what you need. These will make sure that your Lab doesn’t get wet!

You can also buy dog boots! Labradors have big paws and you need to find the right size. Make sure you follow all manufacturer instruction and find the right size for your Lab. If you do not buy any boots remember to remove all snow and ice when you return form a walk and also dry your Labradors feet as much as possible.

Keeping your Lab dry is so important!

Coming Soon on www.all-about-labradors.com great clothes for your Labrador.

This coming month I will be adding pages where you can buy your dog clothing, I will send everyone an email letting you know when this is available.

Gibraltar Dog Show!

This year saw the 24th and 25th Annual Gibraltar dog shows. We were fortunate to catch the event and had a chat with the local kennel club to get some of the details.

There were over 950 entries and the event had 14 judges from all over the world including Canada, Argentina, Finland and Denmark. Although there were only 20 Gibraltarian entries there were quite a few locals applauding their favourite breeds and sure enough, there were loads of Labradors!

Watch this space for some pictures of Labs from the Gibraltar Dog Show!

Dog Food Recipe

Every month we are going to try and prepare a fun recipe for you to try out at home. If anyone has a recipe to share with us feel free to send it in Tasha's Milky Bones!

Ingredients

  • 150ml (1/2 cup) dry milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 80ml (1/3 c) butter
  • 710ml (3 c) whole wheat flour
  • 5ml (1 t) salt
  • 175 (3/4 c) hot water

Directions

You will need a bowl. Prepare the hot water and pour it into the bowl, add the butter and slowly stir in the milk, salt and egg. Once done begin adding the flour 150ml (1/2 cup) at a time until combined. To get a stiff dough you must knead for about 5 minutes.

The thickness you will look to roll to will be about ½ inch. Once you have done that you can cut the dough into the shapes you want. Try bones shapes they always get Harry’s attention!

Preheat your oven and bake at 160°C (325°F) for 50 minutes, then cool overnight.

Give this recipe a try and let us know how it went. Did your Labrador want more?
