I'm thinking about getting a labrador after xmas, I've always wanted one just never had the time to look after one.

Now i have got plenty of time to look after it I'm not sure if I should get a black one or a brown one, is there many differences between the two?

Answer

Your choice will come down to your preference as they are both exactly the same breed, they have just had small changes in their genes which has caused a change in their coat colour.

A litter of labradors can have labs of any of the three colours, black, chocolate or yellow.

There is no other difference in intelligence, temperament or personality.

a difficult choice

We have a black and a brown lab and they have completely different personalities but that is just down to the natural variations in the breed. THe black dog is the kindest, sweetest, gentlest dog on earth and the brown one is the smartest, quickest, most curious and affectionate dog on earth.

I think in terms of temperament, it is best to get to know the parents.
