Pedegree Labrador?

Question

Do all purebred labs have black noses and black mouths?

I had someone doubt the pedegree of our lab which we are told and shown papers that she is pure breed but her nose is not dark black (more brown) and her eyes and mouth are not the characteristic black framed.

Help anyone?

Hi there,

I am not entirely sure when it comes to purebreeds, however having read on the akc website for breed standard information, it seems that a black lab should have a black nose, a brown nose is the standard for choc labs.

Maybe you can take your lab to a labrador retriever breeder for confirmation of whether your lab is purebreed?

You didn't say whether you lab was a black, yellow or chocolate. Pure Black labs have black noses and yellow and chocalates have brown noses.
If you didn't get the AKC papers I would definitely question the pedegree. The look can vary a little between the English Labs and the Americans Labs. Our first lab was a yellow AKC English Lab with a more blocky head, stocker body type and big huge paws and since his passing we now have a black lab pup whose characteristics are more American. His mom was an American chocalate lab and his dad was an English black lab (both AKC)so his face is more narrow and his body is sleek like the American but he got his dad's English paws- big! I hope this helps!
