Cleaning your Labrador Retrievers Eyes and Ears

January 4, 2013 By All About Labradors

How to keep your Labrador Retrievers Eyes and Ears clean

Keeping on top of your Labrador Retrievers Eyes and Ears is all part of being a good owner.

Fox Red Labrador After a day out in the fields, beach or long walks around town chances are that your Labradors eyes and ears have got a bit dirty. This is not his fault, it just happens. Your responsibility is to check this out every so often. Almost every time you go into fields or woodland though.

Using a small flashlight is such a great idea when inspecting the ears

Your Labrador will not be aware of some of the smaller pieces of dirt or muck that may line the interior of the ear, however, he will be aware of anything bigger. Many Labradors will rub their ears with their paw or rub their head against the floor in an attempt to rid themselves of the irritant. Unfortunately, more often than not, your lab will need your help.

Your Labrador will be eternally grateful if you can help him feel better

You can do the simple job of cleaning your Labradors ears by using special ear drops and some cotton wool. Simply apply the ear drops and then carefully use the cotton wool to wipe off any dirt. You must remember not to push too far down the ear, that is very dangerous. You should only clean the exposed area.

If your Labrador reacts violently it probably means that he has an infection and should be treated by a veterinarian

Cleaning around the eyes is also very important. Both your Labrador Retrievers Eyes and Ears are vital and should be kept in top condition. Removing discharge and dirt from around the eyes is simple. All you need to do is use a clean lint-free cloth. Make sure it is damp and then carefully dab around the eye.

If your Labradors eyes are very red and you sense that there may be an irritation you should call your veterinarian

Keeping your Labrador Retrievers Eyes and Ears clean is a basic part of your responsibility as an owner. You should look after your Labrador as you would look after yourself. Happy Cleaning.

Overcoming dog chewing problems

Dog chewing problems is something that every dog owner must face. Our lab was a terrible chewer when she was a pup and teething! She would chew (and destroy!) anything she would find laying on the floor, namely shoes, socks, papers and the list goes on. This dog chewing problem is very normal but must […]
