About Labrador Retriever Breeders

How to find good Labrador Retriever Breeders

Always make sure you buy your labrador through reputable labrador retriever breeders. Buying a dog is an important decision, make no doubt about it. Your family is about to grow, and with it your responsibility as well. Finding labradors for sale is not very difficult, but finding a good breeder may be harder than you think.

There are labrador retriever breeders all over the world. Some of them are good and some of them, not so good. Your aim is to find an excellent one.

Labradors have always been a popular breed. They have very attractive traits that make them ideal as a family dog. This is probably the reason why you are thinking of buying one, its definitely the reason why my family bought one.

Lets discuss what makes a good breeder

A good breeder is someone who cares about their dogs. They do not over breed, nor do they breed with which ever other labrador is available. They may only use a bitch once because they have not found suitable partners. You do not want to find a breeder that appears to be producing pups with conveyor belt precision.

You should visit the breeders home as that is where they usually keep the litters they produce. A good breeder will have nothing to hide, remember that. Puppies are usually very excited to see new people and should be full of life and wanting to play. If they have had a busy day the breeder will probably say so and invite you back another day.

Puppies should also be excited to see their owner.

When visiting the house of a breeder you should ask to see the living conditions of the litter. Have a look to make sure it is clean, ask how often it is cleaned too. Ask about the food they use and how much it costs and if they recommend anything else. A good breeder will usually use quite a pricey dog food because they want to give their pups the best possible start.

Good labrador retriever breeders will want their labs to go to good homes. They will not want one of their precious pups going to a home that will not give it the time, attention and love that an owner should. So, you should be prepared for some questions as well.

A good breeder will ask you about your home, your work, your lifestyle and will try and get an idea of your personality

Pedigree labradors are very popular as well. If you are looking for a pedigree lab you should ask breeders where you can find one. If they have a pedigree lab they will provide you with a statement about the dogs bloodline.

The price of a pedigree labrador retriever can be very high. If you find that you are paying far more than you expected it could be because there have been purebred champions in the bloodline. This means that you may have a possible ‘show dog’. Once again ask the breeder about this.

If your looking for labrador retriever breeders you should remember the following points. Ask plenty of questions, ask to see the living conditions, watch the behaviour of the pups, ask about the food. A good breeder will not be afraid to answer or assist you with any of this. Remember a good breeder is interested in keeping a good, strong bloodline and finding good homes for their pups.
