need advice for a 9 year old lab

by Kelley
(Canada)

We rescued a 9 year old lab and we are having trouble getting him to eat, he is a big dog and I am worried he is not eating enough, he snubs his nose and will not eat dog food we have tried several brands.

He so far will only eat fresh vegetables and meat . I can not afford to cook him homemade meals everyday nor do I know how much to feed him.

His original owner died so I can not ask him.

Is it possible he is not eating because he is in mourning ??

What should I do ?

Dogs can definitely get depressed
by: Anonymous I definitely think he is mourning. We had a yellow lab for nearly 10 years (and now have a one year old black lab) I can remember times when Hunter, our yellow lab, would not eat because our friends would come to visit and have their dogs and he would play and play but when they left he was so depressed he wouldn’t eat for a while. You might try some good quality wet food just to get him interested and then start mixing it with dry food until you are just giving him dry food. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
