i am looking for advice on a 3 month old golden lab who will not come when she has something in her mouth. She will come any other time.

I am getting very frusterated and she has done quite well with all her other training except this.

I fear she will find something like the other day had a bird and ran around the yard until it was gone. No amount of treat would make her come. Someone please help me!!!!!!!

I dont want her to get hurt and when you think you have puppy proofed until you cant puupy proof any more she finds something i didnt see.

Don’t take it mommy!
by: Daisy

From my experience when my little girl won’t come it’s because either she knows she did something wrong or she is afraid I am going to take her prized possession away. I’m guessing that maybe you have lured her in with treats before in order to take something else out of her mouth? In this case you have some reversing to do. You will have to regain her trust. I would suggest going to her, hold the treat in your hand and make a trade with her rather than tricking her. If you have never lured her in with a treat, then of course this is irrelevant. However in that case, there is a link in your trust relationship that is missing. I am thinking that maybe she is not acknowledging you as the pack leader. I think you have to continue expressing your position to her and make her understand that what she is doing is not okay. Stand tall and be consistent. I know it’s tough, I went through that with my pup. Labs generally don’t like to disappoint their owners, so make sure she knows that you are not happy when she doesn’t listen. She will grow to understand this and eventually stop.

Good luck,
Daisy
